Edmonton Labiaplasty Recovery

One of the most common questions that clients ask is regarding post-procedure recovery.

In many ways, post-procedure care is as important as the procedure itself!

It is critical to follow care instructions as well as sexual activity, exercise and movement instructions. Each person heals differently and, even though, genital areas heal well, care must be taken that we give body all the help we can to heal itself!

Regular post-procedures office or tele-health follow up visits are important to make sure that all questions and concerns are always answered. Recovery is new to the patients but we are familiar with the healing and help guide the healing to successful conclusion.

Discomfort following the procedure generally last few days and can easily be managed with over-the-counter medications, cool compresses and rest. Depending on the procedure performed, “Trim the Edges” vs “Wedge, Edge Preserving” method, rest (few days), reduction in exercises (such as bike rides, squatting or horse back riding) and anything putting pressure or stretch on the area need to be avoided for at least 3-4 weeks. The duration of sexual activity that needs to be avoided is based on the surgical technique used. Generally speaking, sexual activity involving treatment area and the vicinity regions needs to be avoided for at least four weeks.

Surgical scars heal very well in the genital mucosal regions and look like fine lines. To enhance healing, we will provide recommendation on daily care.

Is there anything specific when it comes to recover following Labiaplasty in Edmonton or Alberta in general? The answer is yes! In winter, there is tendency to wear tight undergarments and, when it comes to the labiaplasty post-procedure care, these need to be avoided to decrease rubbing effect. Furthermore, skin tend to be dryer in Alberta winters and, as such, appropriate moisturization of the regional skin is advised!
